Specialist Blood Tests at Menopause Care
Specialist Blood Tests at Menopause Care
At Menopause Care, we believe in testing with a purpose. We are here to support you with a tailored approach, which is why we only suggest blood tests when they're truly helpful in understanding your specific symptoms and hormone health.
If your doctor recommends a test after your consultation, they’ll outline which markers are needed in your clinic letter. Once you’ve submitted your request, our team takes care of the rest—from confirming your markers to finding your most convenient local clinic. We have designed the process to be as accessible and stress-free as possible, so you can focus on feeling like yourself again.

A supportive approach to your health
Navigating menopause can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to help you find clarity. While not every woman needs a blood test to begin her care, they can be a valuable tool in understanding your unique hormone balance and overall wellness.
Accuracy is our priority. We only use venous blood samples (drawn from a vein) because they are significantly more reliable than "finger-prick" postal kits, especially for measuring oestradiol levels. This ensures your clinician has the highest quality data to shape your care.
If your specialist recommends a wellness check or hormone profile for HRT monitoring, we want the process to be as straightforward and stress-free as possible. We’ll help you find a local clinic at a time that suits you, so you can get your results quickly and move forward with your treatment.
If a clinic visit isn't convenient or available in your area, we can arrange for a qualified nurse to visit you at home for a service fee of £60 (only £20 more than the £40 clinic fee). Our patient care team handles all the coordination and phlebotomy arrangements, so you don’t have to worry about the logistics.
Please note: This £60 fee covers the nurse's visit and all the logistics. It is a separate, mandatory charge on top of the cost of your blood tests.
How blood testing at Menopause Care works
Booking and having your blood test is straightforward. Here is what to expect:
Choose a blood test
Your clinician will tell you in your clinic letter which blood test is right for you, and why. If you are unsure, get in touch with our team at info@menopausecare.co.uk.
Request it here and pay online
Use the form below to choose the blood test package or pack outlined in your clinic letter, and complete your secure online payment.
Our bloods team will review this and contact you within 48 business hours to confirm your blood test requirements, pricing, and available clinic locations, where applicable.
If there are any differences between your request and the recommendations outlined in your clinic letter, we will let you know. If any additional blood tests are recommended that fall outside your original request, we will discuss these with you and provide a separate invoice with full details before proceeding.
Get tested at a local clinic (or book a home visit)
Visit one of our partner clinics near you. If you'd prefer a home visit, we can arrange that for an additional fee.
We use venous blood tests, where blood is drawn from a vein (usually in your arm). This is more reliable than finger-prick tests, particularly for measuring oestradiol. A qualified phlebotomist will take your sample; the appointment usually takes around 15 minutes.
Results shared and reviewed by your clinician
Once your results are processed (usually within a few days), they go straight to your Menopause Care clinician for review. If your results need any discussion before your next appointment, your clinician or our team will be in touch.

Everything you want to know
No - at Menopause Care, we only provide private blood tests for existing patients. This ensures every test is clinically necessary and tailored to your specific symptoms. If you haven't had an initial consultation yet, please book one first; your clinician will then confirm if a hormone profile is recommended for you.
Your clinician may recommend a blood test in specific situations, such as:
- Starting testosterone replacement therapy – You will need a baseline testosterone blood test before starting treatment, followed by tests at 3 months and 12 months. If your levels are high at any stage, more frequent monitoring may be required.
- Assessing how well your HRT is working – If your symptoms are not improving as expected, a blood test can help determine whether you are absorbing oestrogen effectively.
- Confirming premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) – If you are under 40 and experiencing menopause symptoms, a blood test can help confirm a diagnosis of POI.
If you are unsure whether you need a blood test, our team is happy to provide guidance—please get in touch by calling +44 208 164 4090 or emailing at info@menopausecare.co.uk.
FFor most women over 40, a blood test is not required for a diagnosis. We focus on your clinical symptoms and history. However, hormone testing for perimenopause can be useful to rule out other issues, like thyroid dysfunction or iron deficiency, which can often mimic menopause symptoms.
While blood tests are not typically used to diagnose menopause, they can be helpful in certain situations, including:
- Ruling out other conditions - Symptoms of menopause can overlap with other health issues such as low iron, thyroid disorders, and vitamin D deficiency. Blood tests can help identify these alternative causes.
- Screening overall health - In some cases, a doctor may recommend blood tests to assess your broader health and confirm there are no underlying medical issues contributing to your symptoms.
We partner with a wide network of UK clinics to make testing accessible. Once you submit your request, we’ll find the most convenient local blood testing clinic for you. If you don't have a clinic nearby, we can arrange a private home nurse visit for a small additional fee (£20) to collect your sample.
If a clinic visit is unavailable in your area, we can arrange a home nurse visit for an additional £20. All blood test options and associated fees are subject to local provider availability and will be confirmed by our team before your appointment.
Our patient care team will ensure that any blood tests results ordered through us are recorded in your patient file for your doctor to review before your follow-up appointment.
We aim to make our specialist care as accessible as possible, which is why we allow you to provide results from external providers. However, to ensure clinical accuracy and safety, we have specific requirements for external data:
- We require official laboratory reports. For safety and verification purposes, we cannot accept screenshots of results from other providers or the NHS.
- You may request that your GP facilitates these tests, though this is at their clinical discretion. Please note that a standard GP panel may not include all the specialist markers required for our metabolic assessment.
- All required markers are detailed in your clinic letter. If you choose an external provider, you are responsible for ensuring tests are completed and results are shared with us in time for your appointment.
- While many private clinics restrict external testing, we permit it to support your flexibility. However, our team cannot take responsibility for accessing, chasing, or validating results not generated directly by our clinic.
Please note that the prices listed for our blood panels cover the laboratory test itself. There is a separate fee for the blood draw (phlebotomy) service:
- In-Clinic Visit: £40
- Home Visit: £60 (added to your chosen test package)
Additional Requirements
If your clinician requests extra markers (as outlined in your clinic letter), any remaining balance will be invoiced following your initial payment. Our team will guide you through this and confirm all final costs when booking your appointment.
Patients on our monthly subscription plans can request their discounted blood tests (on bloods recommended by your doctor, via our approved partner labs) through this page. Your subscription ensures your results are integrated into your ongoing care plan and reviewed by your dedicated specialist. Just complete the request form below, and our team will be in touch with more details.
We understand that plans change. You can cancel your blood test request at any time; however, please note that any cancellations made more than 48 hours after your payment has been processed will incur a £10 administration fee. This covers the processing and coordination costs handled by our patient care team. To request a cancellation, please email info@menopausecare.co.uk.
